1. Who we are

Mandarin Monkey is an online Mandarin language learning platform connecting students with Taiwanese teachers for 1-to-1 lessons. We are the controller of your personal data collected through this website.

2. What data we collect

• Name and email address when you register or book a lesson
• Learning preferences and onboarding answers you provide
• Lesson booking history and progress data
• Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card details)
• Communications between you and your teacher

3. How we use your data

• To provide and improve our teaching platform and booking services
• To match you with suitable teachers based on your learning goals
• To send lesson confirmations and reminders
• With your separate, optional permission, to send Mandarin learning tips, practice ideas and occasional lesson offers by email (normally weekly). We record when, where and how you opted in so we can respect your choice.
• To track your learning progress at your teacher's request
• To process payments securely

4. Data sharing

We share limited data with:

• Teachers — your name, lesson details, and learning goals to prepare your lessons
• Stripe — to process payments securely
• Resend — to deliver the emails you request and optional marketing emails you consent to receive, and process delivery, unsubscribe and suppression events
• Google Meet — to create meeting links for your lessons

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Optional Google Calendar connections

Teachers may connect a Google account so Mandarin Monkey can check free/busy availability, prevent conflicting bookings, and create, update or remove lesson and Hangout events with Google Meet links. Students may separately choose to connect Google Calendar to sync their booked lessons and Hangouts. We use the Google account identity and the Calendar permissions you authorise only to provide these scheduling features.

When you connect, we store your Google account email and the authorisation tokens needed to maintain the connection, along with identifiers for relevant Mandarin Monkey calendar events. Our scheduling and support systems may access calendar event details needed to manage bookings or troubleshoot an issue. We do not use Google Calendar data for advertising or sell it.

You can disconnect Google Calendar from your Mandarin Monkey account or revoke Mandarin Monkey's access in your Google Account connections. Previously created events may remain in your calendar. Mandarin Monkey's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as required to provide our services. We also retain limited marketing consent and unsubscribe records so we can honour your choices. You may request deletion of your account and data by contacting us.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. Contact us to exercise any of these rights. You can choose not to receive marketing without affecting your account or lessons, and you can withdraw marketing consent from your student profile or using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email. Service-related booking messages are separate.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
